The Essex Film Office is managed by Essex County Council.
Our mission is to make filming in the county as easy and seamless as possible, and to act as ambassadors for the screen sector in Essex.
In 2021, in response to the heightened demand for Essex as a location for filming and the growth of opportunity for the film and TV sector, Essex County Council established a dedicated Film Office to support and encourage the expansion of the UK and regional film industries and to promote Essex as a go-to location for film and TV production. We are not a commercial entity which means that we can act impartially and in the best interests of productions, whilst at the same time minimising any impact of filming on residents.

Supporting location managers and production teams
We want to make working in Essex as easy and seamless as possible, so we will act as the central point of contact co-ordinating with local city, district and borough Councils and will assist location managers in obtaining permits to film on the highways and secure traffic management.
Being part of the county council means that we can support you quickly and effectively in obtaining the right permissions when you want to film in a location, which may have restrictions attached to it such as an historic ancient monument or Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
We also work with a range of private locations and business and as a Visit Essex partner we have access to a wealth of unique locations and accommodation options to overnight cast and crew.
For residents and businesses
We don’t just support the film industry; we also support the businesses and communities the film crews are operating in.
The Essex Film Office recognises the economic benefits of location filming and by attracting film and TV production activity into the county, however, we do understand that not everyone enjoys having a film crew on their doorstep and the noise and inconvenience can be worrying to some, particularly in you don’t know what is going on in your area.
