Where was it filmed?

The 2006 docudrama starring Essex actor, Dame Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II was an instant hit. Following the tumultuous years for the monarch as she navigates leading the country through a period of unprecedent public mourning, the movie starred Michael Sheen as Tony Blair. As Diana’s flag draped coffin is brought back to the UK, the scene, which was set in RAF Northolt in West London was actually shot at London Southend Airport.

Southend Airport is served by its own train station, just metres from the entrance. Southend Airport is easily accessible by car via the M25, there are up to 6 direct trains per hour travelling into the centre of Southend or towards Chelmsford and London, or if you’re travelling by bus, catch the X30 from Chelmsford Bus Station.
