Blackwater
Following the mysterious story of Donald Crowhurst on his solo attempt to sail around the globe, The Mercy was shot on and around the river Blackwater in Essex in 2015. Shot in Maldon and the surrounding area, local boat builder Heritage Marine in Downs Road, Maldon actually recreated Crowhurst’s boat for the movie.
The Blackwater River is a picturesque waterway surrounded by natural beauty and fascinating history. Along its estuary, Promenade Park in Maldon offers riverside walks, playgrounds, and a splash park, making it a popular family destination. Many wonderful events are hosted throughout the year, including the infamous Maldon Mud Race and the Smoke and Fire Festival. The salt marshes and mudflats provide a haven for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts.
