Aces High (1976) is a World War I drama where Malcolm McDowell plays a battle‑worn squadron leader trying to guide young pilots through the brutal, short‑lived reality of air combat.
The Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome was originally opened in 1916, and was pivotal in the formation of the Air Defence of Great Britain, playing a significant role during the Battle for Britain in World War I. It marked the transition of No 37 Squadron from the Royal Flying Corps to the Royal Air Force in 1918 before closing in 1919. Today, the 23 surviving buildings on the site are all Grade II listed. Visitors can enjoy the ponds and meadows that provide habitats for farmland species, visit the fascinating museum, and browse the volunteer-run shop.
