Thurrock
It’s the 1990s classic that everyone loves. Four Weddings and a Funeral is said to be in the top 100 best British films made in the 20th Century. As the title suggests, the film centres around a group of friends as they navigate through a series of momentous life events. What is not as well known, however, is that the famous funeral scene for loveable character Gareth (Simon Callow) was filmed at St Clement’s Church in West Thurrock. A Grade I listed building, St Clement’s Church is said to originate back to the 12th century.
Located on the north bank of the River Thames with 18 miles of riverfront, Thurrock is a borough in Essex with great history and many things to do! Here, you will find Coalhouse Fort, the port of Tilbury and Tilbury Fort – this is where Queen Elizabeth I addressed her troops and gave the famous ‘heart of a king’ speech in 1588. In Grays, Lakeside Shopping Centre is a popular destination to eat, drink, shop and more with Boom Battle Bar, Upside Down House, and Nickelodeon Adventure.
